Vermont Emergency First Responder (VEFR)

From time to time we have folks interested in helping but are only interested in assisting on scene and driving and/or do not have the time to spend in a course.  The VEFR level is a 2 day course that outlines what we do in EMS, as well as some basic first aid and CPR training.  VT requires 2 licensed personnell to transport a pt to the hospital.  To be licensed previously, one would be required to take a 60 hour course.  The VEFR course is a weekend course which then makes you a licensed member of the crew to assist on scene and drive the ambulance.  It's a great first step in helping your community.

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

Emergency Medical Responders provide immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical services system. EMRs have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive. EMRs also provide assistance to higher-level personnel at the scene of emergencies and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders are a vital part of the comprehensive EMS response. Under medical oversight, Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment. [From the: National EMS Scope of Practice Model]

Emergency Medical Technicician (EMT)

Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight.
